If my stack is less than 10 bb and I am going to enter a pot, I almost always shove my stack in (exception being is if I have 8-9bb and it is folded to me in late position- I may try a 'standard' 3-4 bb raise here). In other situations, I use it to isolate a smaller stack who has gone all in in front of me, or when I feel like I have the best hand and want to protect it from any draws that might still be live.
