Always a tough position.
The board's not very coordinated on the flop, so I put button on pairing the jack or a pocket pair to have called through the turn. I think the smart play is probably to check fold the river.
BUT.
I always bet call the river just as you did hoping for the fold. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I figure it doesn't have to happen often at all to make it a good play.
Now that I've contradicted myself, maybe somebody can come along and properly answer your question.
(BTW, that situation just came up with me as I was typing this, and I checked it through on the river only to lose to a paired 4 that might have folded had I bet the river. Did I just contradict my contradiction?)
