The nature of the table in general makes a difference. If the table is relatively passive postflop and they do fish-donk things like bet $.50 into a $6 pot... then I'm more comfortable playing the drawing hands. If the table tends to be aggressive, I don't want to play much out of position. Position is key.
I also take into account how 'bad' I think my opponents are.
If your average player makes a raise from anywhere and I have a hand like AJ in the small blind... fold it. (because the only think you want to hit is 2 pair or a straight.)
Honestly... if you autofolded every sb except when you had pocket pairs and AK... it would probably be a +EV move.
Re: the suited connectors and stuff... realize that where are a lot of limpers, you call because of implied odds (good), but you are calling to hit a monster or a monster draw. You don't want to bet into a handful of people with weak holdings. If you have middle pair, no draw and weak kicker and there's 4 people left to act... let it go. you've invested squat into the pot.
