It's nice to know the pundits agree, what about actual poker players.

I am pretty sure they are using the third definition listed below:

pun·dit pronunciation
n.

1. A source of opinion; a critic: a political pundit.
2. A learned person.
3. Hinduism. Variant of pandit.

[Hindi paṇḍit, learned man, from Sanskrit paṇḍitaḥ, learned, scholar, perhaps of Dravidian origin.]

It seems the most plausible explaination.
