hand 2 bet smaller on flop, as played fold river. He likely miss a check raise on turn as well. I think majority of people would not push a Queen at this level.

Do you typically bet smaller on these type of flops as feeler/semi-charging bets? I tend to bet the same almost-pot-sized on most flops (i.e. even if I had QQ), or check behind. But I'm interested if this is only situational play for you or do you typically always vary bet size? I think in this hand a smaller bet would've been better as suggested.

Well for paired board, it's less likely he hit the board but if hit 9, he hit hard. A min check raise from him usually don't always mean trips, sometimes he has AQ here. So I want keep pot smaller. Against some particular aggressive villian who cr flop and bet all the way with AQ, I call down from there, but bet smaller allow me to keep him honest from time to time without going broke. And alot of time he thinks I have AK and call with any Q or pp which is what I want.

I play in a way my bet size varies alot anywhere from overbet to min bet. I want to keep them guessing.
