If you were planning to check behind an unimproved river, then I think betting the turn is OK. However, I normally check the turn also.
Given that you have a NFD on the turn, I like the turn bet more than if you didn't. But I like it mostly becasue it is deceptive. That is, if you actually make your flush on the river the opponent will be less inclined to believe it than if you check turn & bet river.
So betting the turn might get you more action on the river drawout. But then you wasted that opportunity by betting small on the river.
