Charity towards others is commended throughout the Bible. The only place I know of where one's entire wealth is involved is the rich young ruler episode. Read the whole story. The young man came to Jesus, proclaimed that he had kept all the law (Jesus knew this was a gross exaggeration), and wanted to know if there was anything more he needed to do. Jesus told him to sell all his possessions rather than go through a lengthy proof that he had not kept all the law. He went right to the main thing that was keeping the young man from God - money. But the Bible never says we have to give away all our possessions to be saved.
