Default Bad Rope-a-dope?

Read: BB seems selective aggressive, could be 3 betting light, but has been picking his spots…

I used to never do this. I would usually raise the flop or at times wait until the turn to pop my opponent. Was this the wrong time to “rope-a-dope” given the following?

1) SAG opponent
2) His pf 3-bet from the BB
3) Board texture – Club and straight draw
