Your original idea is correct.
When i was a dealer somebody did that exact thing and flipped the guys second card while it was on the way to the muck and said "show one show all". You can not do that. "Show one show all" mean if you show one player your cards you have to show all players - the reason is that you must give the same amount of information to all players.
