It works when it is easy for your opponent to put you on a bluff. So when a draw misses and you have played your hand like a draw. Or here where it is easy for him to put xorbie on an ace trying to push him off a split. It also works when the opponent simply does not lay down any hand TPTK or better. So you can just bet pot on flop, bet pot on turn, overbet river. Or overbet flop, overbet turn, overbet river. Or whatever.
