Or it was just less competitive back then. But even guys making decent money these days in Challengers are drastically below top 10 level.

Back then, I believe the top players would throw a match early in the tourney. I'm not sure exactly why they did this, but I think it was to collect an entry fee. I believe jon mcenroe blew the lid on this one.
Anybody else think Dr. McGuilicuddy's rules?
