Default WSOP ME hand I played, 99

The blinds were 50/100. I had about 9000. The other guy in the hand was pretty young, and was playing a lot of hands, probably 25-30%, but playing very well and aggressively. Someone said he'd been in the top 20 or so of last year's ME.

He limped in EP, UTG plus one or two. It's folded to me on the button and I made it 400. He called.

The flop was something like 853 rainbow. Pot size 950. He checked and I bet 700. He called.

The turn was a 10 of the fourth suit. Pot size 2350. He checked and I bet 1200. He called.

The river was a 2 or 4. Pot size 3750. He threw in a 5000 chip and I folded.

I'm wondering whether I should have just checked the turn, or called the river. On the turn I bet because I didn't want to give him a free card and I wanted to be able to check behind the river. I didn't know what he was supposed to have on the river, but I assumed it beat nines and it was a big bet.

If this looks bad, it's probably because I play limit.
