yeah this is an annoying situation which I wonder about too.
Its one of the situations that is easy to decide based on mood- if your slightly steaming you see showdown, if you're running really good you see showdown, if you're inbetween you lay it down...
This is not the correct way to decide the course of action, I'm just saying even its easy to subconsiouly proceed.
As far as the optimal play, I am unsure. would like to hear more on this thread.
