I think the thing to take away from the hand is that checking and calling is certainly the worst possible option against all but the most thinking opponents.
If he got to the river on this board he has either hit the board reasonably hard with a set or two pair, or he had straight drawing type hand.
With the former he won't bet it but you may get value. With the latter he's certainly betting all in with the made straight against which you have commited to calling. Additionally you may occasionally get him to fold a set of kings.
Only a strong opponent would bluff here with a hand that contains solid showdown value.
