This movie was about as over the top sentimental as you could get, but I still liked it and forgave it for that. It actually worked. It's hard for many modern audiences to put up with the cloying cuteness of some old films(try watching an Andy Hardy film), but Chaplin was good enough here, and his situation human and understandable enough, that I was willing to say to hell with it and just go along for the ride.
