Really? If I bet the flop (probably about the same amount he bets on the end) any hand i beat folds in a flash, any hand that beats me raises or calls and I'm done with the hand in either case. If he has seen my passive play on the flop and turn I've now induced a bluff out of the hands I beat (JJ-88), and lost the same amount I would have if I was beat and had bet the flop initially.
