Thanks for the quick replies -- for the record, yes, I ran both Spybot and Adaware.
Each found a bunch of stuff (mostly tracking cookies), and removed them...but the Winfixer problem remains...

I have exactly the same problem, and also tried Adaware and Spybot (spybot is totally useless, imho). No idea where this came from - I haven't downloaded much of anything lately.

Gonna try the other solution ideas this weekend.
