I think he played it perfectly. The thing is, he wants the flush draw to call on the flop. If he gives poor odds, he should welcome the call. He has the nuts on the flop and should do everything he can to trick a worse hand into putting as much money into the pot as possible.

Having 600 chips is only relevant if he plans to fold when raised. If he plans to do that, then betting half his stack makes no sense. Since he is inducing action, it makes perfect sense.
