Thats a dealer screwup you didn't do anything wrong.
I had a similar thing happen at MGM when they first opened. The first time I played when I sat down I asked the dealer if I had to post to come in. The dealer told me I didn't have to post.
The next time I came to play I sat down two seats away from the Big Blind, the dealer dealt me cards and I looked down to see pocket 8's. The player sitting immediately to my right made a substantial raise and then the dealer looked at me and told me I had to post. I told him I wasn't going to post and threw my cards in the muck. He didn't say anything and nobody else did.
The thing is that in all honesty if there hadn't been a substantial raise I would have played those cards. But in fairness to me, if the dealer had told me that I had to post before he dealt I would have waited two hands to come in.
I don't think I did anything wrong, but I know that it didn't look kosher.
