I think you need a bit more high card value than 78o to complete in the SB.

You had what is called relative position on the flop. That means that you could check and wait to see what happened.

If someone bet immediately after you, it would suggest a better hand than yours, because they would be betting into a lot of players.

If everyone checked and the button bet, then the button might have a weak hand and you could raise to try to see a showdown heads up.

I would have checked the flop to see the action after me, but I would not have completed preflop to begin with.
