Stephen King's Different Seasons - I'm not kidding
Has Shawshank Redemption and 'The Body' (basis for the film 'stand by me'), and both wonderfully written novellas.
Apt Pupil is a strong piece too, but very disturbing (deals with nazi atrocities).
