Default Someone who knows about cable... help me.

All right... I don't have cable TV. I have cable internet which costs > $50 per month.

I just called Comcast today because I finally decided to cave and spend the extra $5 per month to get the basic, basic cable (only includes local channels and random crap; no ESPN or Comedy Central). I want this for local channels only... I'm tired of messing with the rabbit ears.

They said sure, just pay the $29.95 set up fee and we'll get you going.

WTF?????

I don't know everything about how cable works, but here's what I do know: Usually if you have cable internet, you can just plug the coax into your TV and it will already have basic cable.

As I understood it, this is because the signal is either "on" or "off." I've tried it before and it worked.

Now, as it currently stands, this trick doesn't work in my house. It *did* for about a week, until the internet went out for some reason about a year ago and the Comcast guy had to come by to fix it. After that day, it mysteriously didn't work anymore.

So... do they need to send a guy out to undo whatever sabotage he did that makes the cable TV no longer work? Or is it something they do at the main office?

Either way, I really don't think I should have to pay $30 for it.

Thoughts?
