I actually live in the UK at the moment.
I don't understand though how the US government is expecting taxes from something that is supposed to be illegal. Do they tax drug dealers as well?

Yes, illegal income is still income and taxable. Its how they got Al Capone, they couldn't prove the crimes he committed, just that he didn't pay taxes on the money he earned from the crimes he committed.
