The variance of 3 hands (saw you said 5, i know) is 1.5x the amount of the total of 3 hands bet one 1 hand.

three x $1 vs one $3 hand.

EV is EV regardless of how many hands you play at a time. The house edge doesn't change, therefore the EV doesn't change either.
