Your in a difficult situation and If you feel so strongly about confronting this guy then I would recommend contacting your local chapter of gambler's annonymous. They have professional counselors who can give you advice on how to help him.
On a side note I watched my boss lose 50K over the course of a year. There's just not much you can do if he doesn't want to help himself.
