I had a hard time understanding pot odds at first also, but I guess I'm in a different boat cause I'm good at math.
So how can I make it simple?
Lets say there are 4 people includeing you
each person bets 1$ and now the action is on you...
Since everyone bet $1, all that money is in the pot... so there is $3 in the pot. Still with me?
The action is on you now... you must call 1$

So take the pot first... which is $3 (usually hard for begginers to keep track of) and put it up to your call...$1
3$-1$ or 3:1 or your $1 will pay out $4 or your $1 will make you $3 if you win. Now lets sey you are faced with the decision to call a $1...
Bad players would usually call and say its just a $1. But you should play a hand thats worth a 3:1 call. Thats the purpose of pot odds. Just play hands that will win 1/4 times or better, of course there are other factors, but thats just by looking at pot odds. Basiclly you are trying to maximize the justification for calling.
