agreed with alobar.
you capped pre-flop.
if he's a TAG...then he probably is sharp enough to see that you are a pretty reasonable player too.
bet the freaking turn. he either has an ace or he doesn't (not sure of his post-flop tendencies...but some players will fold QQ or KJ or something after a pre-flop cap AND the ace shows up AND you are still betting at it).
if he raises the turn then you're done.
if he calls the turn then I think check-fold the river is okay.
once you check the turn you might as well just be giving him the pot.
He's either afraid of the turn ace after your pre-flop cap or he isn't. checking tells him that YOU are the one who is afraid of it.
