People have emotional issues with money. Everyone knows about fear and greed, but it's more complicated than that.
How was money treated in your home when you were growing up? Most of us don't ask questions of ourselves like that, but it's important to know how we relate emotionally to money, because we certainly don't always relate to it rationally.
I highly recommend books by Suze Orman. She gives advice on personal finances, but instead of just focusing on what investment strategies have the highest +EV, she gets into the psychology of money and risk. I think you might find some help there.
