There's nothing wrong with any hobby - poker included - as long as it's done in balance with the other things/people in your life. If you like to play poker in your spare time, fine. If you'd rather play poker than go to parties, hang out with your friends, take your girlfriend out to dinner, etc., then your poker "hobby" may in fact be a problem.

The posters you refer to, who feel depressed or ashamed, feel that way because they've let a card game take over their life, to the detriment of every other person/thing in their lives.
