This is a good idea. A lot of the oldtimers are playing a social activity. They want to play without variance and get upset with anybody who gambles or pushes small edges. They have also learned that the fewer hands they play, the less they lose. If you notice, they take every opportunity to slow down or stop the game.
The good news is that they all go to bed early. If the games haven't been smothered like an infant in his cradle, they usually perk up in the wee hours.
