my point is that the first day usually draws a bigger crowd then a Tuesday afternoon event.
WSOP in Vegas day 1 drew a ton of players compared with the other prelim events I believe.
Same thing happened at the New Orleans circuit event a few months ago I think. Everyone and their brother played in the first event and the line was out the door. but it wasn't AS bad for some of the other events.
Anyway, if I had to guess I would think you would be okay registering on Monday night. Probably not a problem at all.
Also - I would not be surprised if they set up other tourneys at the Grand. And you can always play those single-table satellites (the entry-chips that you win are easily sell-able...and the single-table satellites are quite soft).
as you noted, there will be LOTS of poker fun to be had by all at the various venues if for some reason your preference doesn't work out.
