This describes my mom very well. She tells me that I should just play the California Lottery instead of playing poker. That I'm basically doing the same thing. I try to explain odds and EV to her, but she doesn't understand. She doesn't mind gambling so much. She plays the slots herself, although not as much as she used to. But she doesn't seem to understand why I can win at poker in the long run, since it's gambling.
I think the OP got great advice in this thread, so nothing to add there, but I wanted to touch on this.
