I am also from New Orleans, well actually Norco which is a suburb about 20 min's southwest of New Orleans. I have spent a large number of drunken nights in and around the city.
The entire state is unique, and I have lived in about 6 others so I can speak from experience. I love to go home to visit, but not sure I'd ever want to live there again. NOT the place to raise the kids, but the ONLY place to party.
If you ever get the chance to visit any part of LA, take it and you will be changed forever. I have several friends who tend to spend almost every vacation there.
I haven't spoken to many people who didn't love their time spent in New Orleans, but I have heard plenty of complaints about the smell in the Quarter! [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]
