Sometimes he's in crazier moods than other times though, so a lot depends on whether he's been potting like this in this session.

It's really hard to tell. In this case I give him the benefit of the doubt as I don't think you are good enough of the time. Plus I almost always end up feeling like a huge donk when I call off 2k with one pair in situations like these.
