Default Re: Formula for a player of the year award?

We used to have a Player of the Month race at our old home game. The formula was simple and based on how many players played. Sometimes we'd only have 8 or 9 people and sometimes we'd have 15 or 16, so a set point structure wouldn't be very accurate. We took the number of players and multiplied that by 10. That was the total number of points up for grab for the night. First place got 35%, 2nd 25%, 3rd 20%, 4th 13% and 5th 7%, rounding where necessary.

For example, 12 people playing.

12x10=120 total points

1st- 120 x .35 = 42 points
2nd- 120 x .25 = 30 points
3rd- 120 x .20 = 24 points
4th- 120 x .13 = 16 points
5th- 120 x .07 = 8 points

It worked out well for us and was a fun thing to keep people coming to the game. We also gave one point each time someone knocked a player out.
