Default Re: Racing off chips?

[ QUOTE ]
From cardplayer:"The players take a 30-minute break before the blinds increase to $3,000-$6,000, with $1,000 antes. The pink $500 chips will be raced off during the break."

I understand this is to get rid of the chips that don't total up to the new minimum denomination, but how does this actually work?

[/ QUOTE ]You stack your chips into stacks that add up to the new lowest denomination. In this case, since the next chip is 1k, there will only be a max of one odd chip (if you are racing $25 chips and the next denomination is $100, and you have $275 in $25 chips, then you would have 3 odd chips).

Everyone with odd chips puts them in front of their stack. The dealer, starting with the seat closest to seat 1, deals a card for each odd chip (if you have $75, you get three cards).
The dealer then collects all the odd chips and sees how many higher denomination chips will be distributed. Let's say there are 6 odd chips of $500 each. That means they will distribute 3 1k chips to the players w/ the three highest cards. No player can get more than one chip and nobody can get eliminated by a chip race.
