If you don't have a plastic cut card, you can always tape two jokers together (joker face out) which makes for a thicker cut card and harder to mistake for a regular card.

I always find it a little weird when people slide the cut card into the middle of a deck to signify the cut, instead of cutting the deck onto the cut card. Different strokes, and all that, but it just never occurred to me to cut that way :-)
