I think of it more as an initiative re-raise and there's an advantage to you acting first if the player is not moderately aggressive. Most of the flops are going to miss you.

Re-raising puts you in the drivers seat on the hand and puts a lot of pressure on QQ-JJ-TT and AK before the flop and I don't mind taking down a smallish pot if we see the flop and an A or a K hits.
