Best bet is to use a cut card. If it's one of those friendly games where that just won't happen then I don't say anything if I see it. I shuffle flat on the table, like a casino dealer does but I've always been pretty skilled at playing around with cards so I don't say anything to anyone who's shuffling in a sloppy fashion because I understand that some people just don't have the dexterity, nor do they care to learn the proper way.
