That account of the action is wrong. HERE is a link that explains play as it went down.

There are also several accounts of Ungar being able to read gin hands perfectly, and this being true, I have little doubts of his abilities at hold'em.

An excellent display of his playing can be seen in the video footage of the 1997 WSOP final table.
