If you bet and I make a big raise...my folding equity is the percentage of times that you will fold to the raise.
If the flop came and you bet and then I pushed all in, and without us knowing it, we had hands that were about 50/50 were you to call, then my play has positive expectation, because if you call, we are 50/50 to win, but you will fold some percentage of the time when faced with a huge all in.
This is the folding equity which when added to my 50/50 chance of winning if called, gives me a great hand.
