If the game is passive, then don't feel "bad" about open-limping. Sure, in a normal, aggro game it's not going to be a good idea, but I open limp all the time in passive games if most preflops aren't raised. If you do open limp and are raised a decent amount, just fold. If you do this a couple times, stop open limping till you get a good hand, then lay down a limp-reraise --- even from MP or LP.
