Default Re: Best Book You\'ve Read Recently (Political/History/Non-Fiction)

I am slowly working my way through Shelby Foote's narrative history of the Civil War, it is excellent, taking the time to detail troop movements in each major battle and lots of minor skirmishes, and provides excellent biography of the officers and even some of the soldiers- It's been called the best history of the war for a layman (as opposed to a trained tactician), and i couldn't aggree more.

I've also been leafing through one of my favroites, "the Journals of Lewis and Clark" as edited by Bernard De Voto. I have a beautiful first edition that i'm destroying as i read it at least once a year.

Also (i read lots of books at a time, slowly), I've been reading The Art of War again, and a book called "skid road" which is an informal history of Seattle, told through five short biographies of pivitol citizens. I'd highly reccomend it to any seattle area posters (i know there are many).
