I use a small solid bronze statue of a chinese dragon.

I firmly believe you should use something other than a chip to protect your hand if that chip could be put into play. I have seen players go all-in and have their hands mucked by mistake THREE times, once in a ring game and twice in tournaments.

Anything small and heavy with a flat base like a large coin or small statue is ideal, imho. Just make sure your card protector will not cut, scratch, or otherwise mark the cards.
