It's not always on your shoulders to eliminate the shortstack when you're the big stack. Pushing with a really marginal hand here is probably the worst thing you can do--he knows he needs to double up, making his calling range a lot wider. Instead, you should just wait for a decent hand or a good spot to get SB's chips in the middle.

This would be a different story if SB had, say, 1600 chips and the other two players had a bit less than their 3000 stacks. This is an opportune time to steal, because the shortstack isn't desperate yet, and the other two stacks fear bubbling when they could instead wait for the shortstack to be eliminated.
