Card-counting aside, it's nickel-diming the game to death. The dealer hitting soft 17 is another crappy rule. I guess an owner can do whatever it wishes, but if I feel like taking a break and playing BJ for a while it would be nice not to have to go across the street to have to shave a quarter or half a point off the house edge. The house still has the best of it, so it just seems piggish. I would be interested in knowing the net pickup on using constant shufflers versus six deck shoes. Assuming the pit crew could detect a big bet variance on mid-shoe entry and therefore reduce the risk of getting hit by a counting crew, I doubt the loss of business from all the blackjack players who don't like the shufflers would be offset by those who don't care. But I could be wrong.

The casino isn't in it to give you a fair game. Even with the things you mention, it's a better bet than any in the house. If you are so price sensitive that you go across the street, then you aren't their type of customer. They build the super-nice facilities so they don't have to compete based on price.

I mean, why *wouldn't* the casino go to shufflers and bad rules in light of what you are suggesting about how atrocious the players' play has become?
