The problem is that he will probably not 3-bet the river with 44. If he will not 3-bet the river with 44, then you should just call there. If it is possible that he would call on the flop with 22, then it opens up another can of worms, but in general you need to have the best hand about 60-67% of the time that you raise in a HU situation were the villian can reraise back. In this case, the villian is not going to fold so you need to have the best hand 67% of the time to make it correct. According to Bayes, you will only have the best of it 50% of the time so it really doesn't do you any good to go nuts.
