You beat me to the punch. The process AviD describes is what goes on in any type of self-hate. Exceedingly common. One of the many places you can find it is in any kind of compulsion.

Care to elaborate?

Why is it "self-hate" or "compulsive" to recognize a mistake or something that creates negative feelings for you and not do it again?

For example, you see fire for the first time, go to touch its attractive red, orange glow and get burned. Next time you see it, are you eager to try and touch it again?

I don't find this to be compulsive action, I consider this learning and applying.
