Anytime you are a person in a public view, it then becomes your requirement to be a nice guy or else you are critizied for it in every public forum. I'm sure there are hidden motives in his tipping extremely well and what not but if you are always in the public eye and many of your endorsements deals depended on people liking you then you have no choice but to be a nice guy. Like the guy says in clerks "it's all personal politics" oh and by the way empire is better then jedi.
