Default Re: General Observations

[ QUOTE ]
Agree/disagree with the following comments in general at your average say 3/6 table:

1) At small stakes online games the basic free card play is a pretty futile effort anymore.
2) Stop and goes from the flop to turn are often a weak made hand, such as top pair weak kicker.
3) A flop 3-bet however still often buys a free card.

As an adjustment to this I find myself raising stronger hands more often on the flop where I used to wait until the turn to get the raise in. I also find myself value betting even more rivers where I used to raise the turn and take a free showdown or just call down.

1. it's certainly less effective than it used to be. for me, it's usually a side effect of hands I wanted to raise anyways.

2. my old fad while playing 2/4 was learning to "play defense", ie, how to handle aggression on the big streets when I had a marginal hand, etc. lately, I've been playing around with "playing offense" or mixing up my postflop lines with different hands for good shania. I've stopped and goed with top two or a set looking to bet-3bet the turn , and I've also done it with the (standard) top pair weak-good kicker against possible overcards or a flush draw. I've mixed this one up a lot, and I'm still not sure if it's optimal. of course this is all HU, I play it pretty straightforward multiway.

I agree with your read vs. standard players though.

3. yeah, I'm usually checked to when I 3 bet the flop, and I'm almost never checkraised when I do decide to bet. I do take free cards from time to time though, so maybe I'm just dodging well lately.
